Costume, Identity & Disguise: Task 1 Destroy Your Portrait
Rankin's "destroy" project was a concept which involved teaming up with a children's music charity; Youth Music! Due to the charities 10th birthday, Rankin asked 70 musicians and visual artists to "destroy" their own portraits taken by the iconic photographer. This would eventually lead to an iconic, original piece of work produced by the artist themselves. The the chosen musicians for the project had also inspired Rankin's son Lyle and his love of music.
Rankin's work has been created with the collaboration with music/visual artists. The outcome begins with the photographing the artists portrait! This is natural to Rankin as portrait photography is something which he specialists in. After the portraits have been taken, it becomes the artists turn to start "manipulating them".
