SELF
A selfie (/ˈsɛlfi/) is a self-portrait digital photograph, typically taken with a digital camera or smartphone, which may be held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick. Selfies are often shared on social media, via social networking services such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram.
TASK 1
For this task you will need:
- Smart Phone
- Access to Google Photos
- Photoshop
- Weebly Portfolio
Quick start. Use your smartphone to take series of at least 10 selfies. Upload them to google photos so you can access them on your Mac. Use the google photos collage maker to create a collage. Download the collage and place on your portfolio
Task 2
Read the tutorial and complete each photoshop task (See below). Save each example as a JPG and evidence on your portfolio. Write a short paragraph underneath explaining the photoshop technique and why you used it.
2.1 Using Levels to brighten/darken a photograph
Experiment with levels. On this occasion push the boundaries and give an example of blacks, whites & mid tones. Save each example as a jpg. Present on your portfolio and explain what you are evidencing.

TASK 3 - Head Shot Using Neutral Background
To complete this task you will need your Phone or a DSLR. |
TASK 4 - High Key Lighting
Follow the high key tutorial to complete this task. Set up the lights and take at least 10 head shots.
Present them in a gallery or a contact sheet. Comment on your photographs. How did they turn out?
Open a photograph and evidence the editing / experimenting process. Focus on Black & White / Boosting the colour, then your own idea.
Present a final edit of at least 3 photographs in the same style. Comment on the success of this task.

Task 5: Experimenting with Blend Modes
Follow the Portrait Blend Modes tutorial to complete this task.
Present a selection (at least 3) of experiments & explain what you did you and whether you think it works or not.
Present a final edit of at least 3 photographs in the same style. Comment on the success of this task.
Task 5 - Creative Use of Blur
Use the Blur Tutorial to complete this task.
Follow the tutorial and use the tutorial to create 2 distorted images. (They should be similar to the final images in the tutorial.)
Present a selection (at least 3) of experiments & explain what you did you and whether you think it works or not.
Present a final edit of at least 3 photographs in the same style. Comment on the success of this task.
Task 6 - Extend Yourself
Using the Blur Tutorial above, have a think about how you could take this task 1 step further. For example you could:
Experiment with other blur effects
Experiment with distortion effects
Overlay different portraits & use the blending tools
Add a texture layer
What else can you think of?
Present a selection (at least 3) of experiments & explain what you did you and whether you think it works or not.
Present a final edit of at least 3 photographs in the same style. Add a border or a frame so that they stand out. Comment on the success of this task. (See example below)
Task 7 - Split Colour Effect
Use the Split Colour Effect Tutorial to complete this task.
Take at least 3 portraits (head shots) with different poses. Present these on your site.
Follow the tutorial and use the tutorial to create 3 split colour images. (They should be similar to the final images in the tutorial.). You should present evidence of the process (screen grabs) and the final outcome (3 images).
Now take this tutorial a step further. This is your chance to experiment. Below are some suggestions.
Use different channels
Experiment with different blend modes
Use a different texture
Add a Curves Adjustment layer to alter the contrast
The list is endless. What can you come up with?
Evidence & annotate your experimentation.
Present a final edit of at least 3 photographs in the same style. Comment on the success of this task.
Extension Task
Think about other ways of presenting your final outcome. You could create a magazine cover or maybe create a mock up. What can you come up with?

These photographs should be selected from a minimum of 50 images that you have taken. The standard of the photographs will determine the quality of much of the work to follow. Please follow the advice given during the detailed tutorials to assist you with this early part of the project.
10 Photoshop and or physical art developments of the chosen photographs. If you print your work to develop with traditional art materials you will need to photograph the final artwork to upload to your website. Ask for my help to do this to a high standard.
Approximately 200 words that explains the process of your work and the ideas behind it.
